World Wine – Formed from ugni blanc, clairette, viognier, muscat-a-petit grains, riesling. Mostly ugni blanc though. Old vines, low yields here. The wine was matured on lees for its life before bottling. This is delicious. It’s slippery in texture, fragrant and bursting with character. Honey, lemon blossom, pear, green apple in the bouquet, suggestively sweet, but not so to taste. Glides in the palate, shows depth of pear-like flavours, licks of oatmeal and sweet spice. Precise, but with a come hither drinking appeal. Lovely stuff.

James Halliday – "94 Points. Bright crimson-purple; a spray of red flowers, berries and spice on the bouquet sets the scene for a wine that over-delivers on its price and the vagaries of the '16 vintage. It's light to medium-bodied, with a cornucopia of red fruits, ripe, fine tannins providing length and persistence to the palate. There's no need for patience, but 5 years won't tire it. $24.00 14.5% alc Drink By: 2025" James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au

The Wine Front – "Super shiraz. Powerfully fruited but soft through the palate and, importantly, spread widely with tannin. A few sips and the word complete came to mind. Berries, earth, woodsmoke, peppercorns and toast. Viognier adds brightness and texture more than it does flavour, though it is (just) detectable. This feels like an outstanding wine at all points along the palate." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

James Halliday – "Great depth and spread of flavour and a remarkable set of tannin. It's the complete red wine. Smoky, ripe, drenched in red berry and clove flavours, a finish that reaches far. Dark chocolate and toast characters are melted through, as indeed are dark roasted spice notes. Cracking wine." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

The Wine Front – Barossa Valley blend of grenache and cinsault from one of Australia's premier producers. It's light. It's spicy. It's insistent. This is not heavy in any way and yet it presses itself upon you. It's hard to fathom how it does it. It tastes of super-fresh raspberry, earth and crushed spice and, simply, it just works

James Halliday – "Pete Schell makes a damn fine rosé. This year it's 52/30/16/2% grenache/mataro/shiraz/cinsault and it sits light salmon in the glass showing aromas of nectarine, raspberry and grapefruit along with hints of redcurrant jelly, white flowers, crushed stone and maybe a touch of lanolin. Sapid and fine with a lovely shimmering acid line and savoury palate shape and an endearing lipsmacking briny finish that begs another glass.” - Dave Brookes, Wine Companion

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate – “Pale crimson/salmon-like colour, redcurrant flavours, dry, savoury, earthen, that kind of thing. Firmly in the ‘pale and dry’ camp. Watermelon characters, maybe some grapefruit, definitely some spice. Light in a good way. Frisky but with plenty going on. Good gear.” - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

James Halliday – "Syrah from a selection of vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valleys, judicious use of whole clusters, matured on light lees in a combination of large-format vessels for around 8 months prior to bottling. Deep purple red in the glass, it's a rollicking, crunchy, bright and sapid ride with a gorgeous plume of plummy fruit, cut with spice and floral nuance, whole-bunch amaro notes and a sense of space, clarity and detail that brings a smile to the face. Such a wonderful drink and great value." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

The Wine Front – "Smells exotic; is exotic. Orange peel and raspberry, cranberry and chalk, floral elements and roasted spice notes. It’s both pretty and substantial, juicy and taut. There’s something ultra pure about this wine; something special. Woodsmoke and earth notes rise as the wine breathes. Apart from many things else, it’s a gorgeous drink." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

James Halliday – "Grenache sourced from the high elevation of the Eden Valley and the Barossa Valley floor. An offering of the best grenache of the growing season, according to Peter Schell. Plenty of vibrant, aromatic fruit with juicy red plum, cranberry and mulberry fruits sheathed in gingery spice and hints of cola, earth, dried citrus rind, teacake, orange blossom, raspberry coulis and redcurrant paste. Firm, chalky tannin grip and a super lively, mineral-laden wine finishing juicy – just a pure, joyous rendition of the variety. A new wine for the crew from Spinifex and it is glorious drinking." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

James Halliday – "The identity of the vineyard is not disclosed, but it's very good on the incontrovertible evidence of this remarkable mataro, a variety that is notoriously difficult to manage on its own in the winery. The colour is excellent, as is the depth of the complex fruits that range across red and purple into a savoury/earthy eventide of flavours and dusty tannins." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

James Halliday – “An impressive single-vineyard grenache from Pete Schell at Spinifex Wines. Brilliant crimson in the glass with flashes of purple and notes of juicy plum, raspberry, red cherry and blueberry with hints of fine spice, gingerbread, purple florals, red licorice, earth, cola and lighter tobacco tones. Plenty of space and detail with fine, compact gypsum-like tannins and a brisk acid cadence, finishing savoury, balanced and spice-laden.” - Dave Brooks, winecompanion.com.au

James Halliday – "With a blend of 37/31/31/12% mataro/cinsault/grenache/shiraz and a very sharp pricepoint, I guess this could be considered as the sibling of the Spinifex Esprit, which has a similar makeup. All you need to know is that it's a pretty lovely wine, packed with exotically spiced plum and red berry fruits and featuring an airy, spacious mouthfeel with plenty of detail and inherent drinkability. You could even pop it in the fridge briefly if that's what you're into." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

The Wine Front – "Some people love a bit of reduction in their reds; other don’t. I’m in the former camp, and this wine plays that angle beautifully. Raspberries and rust, throws of dry spice, twiggy herb notes, licorice and that smoky, earthen, slightly burnt reductive character. The flavours come both tense and sheeted; it’s a light-ish wine of juicy, taut finesse. Pricing is spot on. This is deliciously good. Personally, in an ideal world, I’d be up to my neck in this." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

The Wine Front – “It’s flush with fruit but there’s a meatiness to this and its churned with tannin too, grainy tannin. Charred meats, blackberries and blueberries, a floral element and fist loads of roasted spice. It’s bold but neat, tannic but not at the expense of the overall flow. Excellent gear, this.” - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

jh95

James Halliday – “Pete Schell's Bête Noir is a shiraz blended across a selection of Barossan grounds including a portion from the cooler Eden Valley. Typically sporting a super-saturated, magenta-splashed hue with aromas of bright plum, black cherry and blueberry fruits cut with hints of violets, brown spice, ironstone, dark chocolate, smoked meats, cherry confit and earth. Glossy and impressively pure, there's ferrous edge to the tight tannins and an acid line that propels the pure fruit briskly across the palate, finishing elegant yet opulent.” - Dave Brooks, winecompanion.com.au
