Winner - Prime Minister's Champion Wine of the Show
Deep red in colour with hues of purple and blue. The nose is lifted with purple fruits, plums and wild berries, and spicy notes of aniseed and Christmas spices. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy with fresh blueberry fruit flavours balance with driving tannin and subtle oak spices to finish.
“It tastes like the country – like it’s grown and made in Australia. It has depth of flavour, real aromatic qualities, complexity, length and it’s beautifully balanced as well – all the attributes we look for in fine wine. It takes a skilful hand to do that, and also a good vineyard.”
- National Wine Show Chair of Judges David Bicknell
Established in 1998, a small estate with an original vision as a Thoroughbred facility. In time, a small vineyard was added, farmed organically, with a view to crafting savoury, complex, “bistro style” wines. Pioneers of styles so common now, like their cult-following pale rosé, they are quality driven and highly acclaimed. The vineyard and winery operations are led by Melanie Chester, a star in the making. She joined Sutton Grange by way of Seppelt, so has a very strong hand for central Victorian wines, and has quickly made a mark in the industry through the Young Gun of Wine Awards.
