James Halliday – Shiraz sourced from the Northern Barossa and matured for 18 months in French oak puncheons, 12% new. Thickly crimson with aromas of rich, macerated plum, cassis and boysenberry, cut with baking spice, dark chocolate, olive paste, berry cream, vanillin oak, espresso and creamy oak. Full bodied and fruit-pure with the compact fruit structure common from the north, avoiding the avoirdupois seen in some wines from that postcode. Pure with a billowing tannin structure, it lingers nicely with a lovely fruit flow.
James Suckling – Ripe plums, blackberries, dark chocolate, licorice and cloves on the nose. A little tarry, too. Full-bodied, structured and dense with firm but polished and seamless tannins. Long and encompassing with peppery and earthy undertones to close. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

94 POINTS - The Real Review
"This has a very deep purple colour of great extract. The nose shows the sort of easy complexity of old oak married to ripe shiraz fruit that makes for satisfying drinking. Plum, blackberry, licorice and lead pencil aromas lead into a mellow, satisfying mouthful. Integrated ripe tannins dry the finish. A wine of lovely aromatic presence that doesn't rely on sheer power for its impact."
Deep scarlet red in colour. Rose petals, plum, chocolate and cassis aromas leap from the glass. After some time hints of vanilla cream, olive tapenade and sweet oak spice reveal themselves. The palate is soft and plush with loads of dark cherry, plum, chocolate and espresso coffee that leads to an elegant finish of fine tannins.

Barossa Valley Wine
The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.
A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.
Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
