About this Wine

The growing season leading into 2022 was typically wet and mild; both September and October saw above average rainfall. Luckily, by the time harvest came around the weather had become idyllic, where we received very little rainfall throughout the harvest period. Low yields meant quality was exceptional and perfectly ripened in a cooler year. The low yields and cooler conditions allowed us to take our time in the winery to full consider every single winemaking step throughout vintage. It was a vintage to really get artistic and creative.
This Rosé is grown on the D’Aloisio vineyard in Seville (220m asl). The grape used is Syrah which was handpicked at moderate ripeness, perfect for rosé. Once in the winery, the grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented in old barriques to build savoury and textural qualities. In order to maintain the pale colour and elegance of the wine the dark and phenolic juice ‘pressings’ were discarded.
There are aromas of fresh strawberry, dried cranberry and stewed rhubarb. Underlying these aromas are spice, gunflint and white pepper notes.
The palate exhibits layers of red apple skin, strawberry gum and ruby grapefruit notes with soft and sweet tones of pink marshmallow and raspberry jam. These notes are woven into the lush mid-palate which then leads to a lovely long and crisp finish.

Best drunk in its youth, although the wine will also develop favourably over the next 2 years.

Yarra Valley Wine

The Yarra Valley wine region is the most important area of wine production in Victoria today, and with its proximity to Melbourne, also the most visited in the state.

Yarra Valley is split into the Upper Yarra and the valley floor. The Upper Yarra is cooler in climate due to its elevation and coupled with younger, fertile, red soils produces most of the region’s notable varietals: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The valley floor is warmer and has predominantly grey soils with pockets of granite and limestone.

Pinot noir has long been considered a notoriously difficult variety to grow. However, the cool climate and longer growing seasons of the Yarra Valley allow the fruit to develop full flavoured and ripe character.

Chardonnay in the past has long been associated with a deep oily, buttery style that experiences full malolactic fermentation and great amounts of oak. This style has since fallen out of favour and wine makers in the Yarra Valley have capitalized on this trend to produce leaner, acid driven Chardonnays that are closer in style to those from Burgundy.
