About this Wine

“Wines that evoke emotion”, is the pillar at the centre of Christoph Hoch’s philosophy. Based in Hollenburg a sub-region of Kremstal, gifted by a Champagne-like terroir rich of sedimented limestone, Christoph’s wines have rapidly gained international interest amongst the natural wine movement. Demeter certiﬁed vineyards employing a mix of innovation and traditional methods to deliver pure, minimal intervention Grüner Veltliner and Riesling as well as naturally fermented sparkling (Pet-Nat) with ageing potential and ﬁnesse.

Rosé Rurale is a unique blend of 70% Zweigelt pressed white from the 2018 vintage, blended with 20% Saint Laurent which is co-fermented on the skins with 10% Muskat Ottonel. The whole fermentation of the wine takes place in the bottle, and it spends six to eight months resting on the lees to allow the tannins and bubbles to balance one another out. A fresh and fruity sparkling wine with aromas of ripe strawberries, blood orange, and a saline minerality on the finish.

About Austrian Wine

Austria is a country with over 4000 years of wine making history, however, it unfortunately doesn't seem to enjoy the status and popularity that the high quality of it's wines deserve. Decades later, the country is still feeling the effects of a scandal in 1985 that destroyed its credibility at the time.

Grüner Veltliner is the most important wine made in Austria, distinguished by its lightly fruity, noticeable spice and characteristic white pepper notes. This variety comprises roughly a third of all plantings. In terms of volume, Riesling plays a much smaller role than in Germany, but is responsible for some of the most appreciated dry white wines made in the country.

In red varietals, Austrian native varieties are dominant and include the tart and peppery Zweigelt, spicy and dense Blaufränkisch and juicy Saint Laurent.
