Contesa Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2023

A wonderfully layered wine this montepulciano offers mixed forest fruit scents, slight spices linger; think woody notes. The palate shows generous berry fruit flavours, some great, refreshing acidity with subtle herb and spice complexities. A great, expressive example of Montepulciano. The grapes were handpicked and pressed to tank for fermentation. Fermentation was carried out over seven days on skins with frequent pumpovers. A further week on skins post-ferment brought a little more structure. The wine was pressed to barrel to age for seven months prior to being blended and racked to stainless steel tanks to settle prior to bottling. This comes from an organically farmed, single vineyard in Chieti located less than half a mile from the Adriatic Sea.
