Austin Nichols Archives Collection
The Austin Nichols Archives Collection is a new limited-edition annual series honouring the most iconic bottles in Wild Turkey's history. Named after the wholesale grocer-turned-liquor distributor that helped establish the brand in the 1940s, the series draws on defining eras from the distillery's past—celebrating the whiskey, craftsmanship, and conviction that have endured for generations.
Launching after the final Master's Keep release, Archives marks the first Wild Turkey series led exclusively by Associate Master Blender Bruce Russell, carrying the Russell family legacy into its next generation.
The Gold Foil Edition
The inaugural release draws inspiration from one of Wild Turkey's most beloved vintage bottlings—the 1985–1992 release affectionately nicknamed the "Cheesy Gold Foil," which later earned cult status among collectors for its depth, intensity, and unmistakable character.
Rather than recreating that whiskey outright, Gold Foil Edition captures the complexity and magnitude of the so-called Glut Era, when older barrels were often blended into standard bottlings, producing a richness rarely found today. Using the same grains, yeast, mash bill, and distillation methods relied upon for generations, Bruce reimagines this vintage inspiration through a modern lens—without compromising the foundations Jimmy built.
The packaging pays tribute to Wild Turkey's heritage. Inspired by vintage advertising and the brand's origin story, the illustrated canister features an autumnal hunting scene with hidden nods to the past waiting to be discovered. Inside, gold foil lining and a label reminiscent of the original complete the homage.
The Whiskey
Gold Foil Edition is a 16-year-old, non-chill filtered, 120-proof Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, crafted primarily from barrels aged in Wild Turkey's Camp Nelson rickhouses, whose unique climate and airflow deliver the bold, mature profile Bruce set out to capture.
The result carries Wild Turkey's signature mature oak "funk," layered with dark fruit, cherry cola, clove, and dark honey, finishing long and peppery with notes of brown sugar and leather.
