Colour is brick red and some browning at the rim to be expected due to age. The bouquet shows lifted , spicy red and black fruits with cedar oak in accompaniment. Bright raspberry and plum fruits show on the concentrated pallet guided by fine tannins to a persistent finish. Lovely now but will hold for another 5 years.
Serve with medium rare porterhouse with a red-wine jus.

James Halliday – Aged 14 months in French and American barriques and puncheons (30% new) followed by four months in older oak. Balgownie is a shiraz specialist, bringing a sense of individuality to each incarnation. Sunny in disposition and warm-hearted in style. Plum and mulberry aromatics ignite with nutmeg, cinnamon, licorice and vanilla. Layers of flavour entwine nicely with well-placed vanillin oak and well-crafted tannins. The winemaker has given the fruit his best attention. It shows.
Huon Hooke – Deep-ish red with traces of brick as well as purple, fading a bit towards the rim. It's starting to show some tertiary characters on the nose from development, and there is also a generous quota of oak. Iodine/nori/peaty traces. Full bodied, intense and long, it has a touch of elegance and should reward further cellaring, athough it's in a good place for drinking now.
