About this Wine

Since 1952, the Schild family have lived and worked in the Southern Barossa, growing grapes and creating wines with authenticity and passion, from real Barossa earth, in a place they call home. Moorooroo Limited Release Shiraz is a wine that represents everything the family hold dear. The wine has historical significance, it is a variety the Barossa is best known for and it comes from a vineyard cared for by generations of Barossa families. History, wine and family are the backbone of the Schild brand and that is what has kept our customers so loyal to the Schild Estate brand.

Four rows of vines planted by the Jacob brothers in 1847, and saved from destruction by Ed Schild in 1984. Hand-picked, bunch-sorted, berry-sorted by table post destemmer, open-fermented, 5-8 days cold soak, 7-14-day ferment, matured for 18-24 months in 90% French/10% American oak (30% new). A great wine, the oak handling exemplary, keeping the cornucopia of purple and black fruits foremost. The mouthfeel is supple, the alcohol also exemplary. It's history gives it an extra point. Drink to: 2057; Price: $199.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2020; Closure; Cork; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 99 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Barossa Valley Wine

The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.

A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.

Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
