James Halliday – This is an ultra-stylish, well-made Graveyard with tightly coiled fruit and a serious demeanour. In fact, it would be easy to miss its greatness, especially alongside riper styles, if one wasn't paying attention. Quiet and reserved with a youthful crimson hue, the fruit is tensioned within an intricate matrix of acidity and tannin. With aeration, one sees exotic black cherry characters nestled within a dense, sculpted, savoury palate. It's a slender, majestic shiraz that has grace and restrained power. It will be an extremely long-living wine, and I can't wait to see how it transforms with time. One for the future.

'...a compelling addition to any serious wine collection.'
99 POINTS - Toni Paterson, Halliday Wine Companion
"Graceful precision and effortless flow reflect the resplendent glory of Hunter Valley shiraz without overt winemaking ornamentation. The fruit is fragrant, dark, coiled and ripe, with restrained power and suppleness exhibiting an engaging fluidity, thrilling in its perfection. There is plenty of strength within, with finely tensioned tannins providing the requisite structure for ageing. Not only is the wine a magnificent expression of this treasured vineyard, planted in '68 and a distinguished signature wine for Brokenwood, but it is also a benchmark of the region, making it a compelling addition to any serious wine collection."
Perfect mid-density colour with purple hints just adding to the appeal. The use of large format French oak allows the red spice and bramble of the Hunter Shiraz fruit to shine. Initial palate is very supple and complete, giving a lovely flow from start to finish. The importance of acidity can never be underestimated as this underpins the structure. It is a juicy acidity and in complete harmony with the ripe tannins and perfectly balanced oak to make this one of the great Graveyards.
