Domaine de Marcoux Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2016
The demand for the Armenier sisters' Côtes du Rhône cuvée far outstrips supply and we sadly do not get nearly enough to enable us to hold stock for more than a few months at a time. The wine is mostly drawn from old vines on the edge of the Châteauneuf vineyards, near Orange (one hectare at Maucoil and one hectare at Bois Lauzon), with a slug of Lirac from the Estate's biodynamically tended vineyards there. The harvesting is done by hand and the fruit is given a cold soak to bring out all those lovely, jubey, bright aromatics and flavours you find in the glass. Fermentation is in cement tanks with wild yeast and the wine rests on skins for a total of two weeks. It then rests on lees for an additional ten months before being bottled without fining or filtration.
|Varietal(s)||Grenache Shiraz/Syrah Mourvèdre|

World Wine – From the Armenier family, famous for their Châteauneuf du Papes, they also produce a Cotes du Rhône made from 80% Grenache and the rest equal parts Syrah and Mourvèdre aged in concrete tanks. The vines range from 40 years to more than 100 years of age, from two parcels outside the northern border of Châteauneuf du Pape in the direction of the town of Orange. Dark ruby with crisp acids, the wine is vibrant and fresh with loads of kirsch liqueur, Provençal herbs, pepper and spice. Very fresh, natural tasting wine, with medium body, excellent fruit purity and depth. Drink it over the next several years. Robert Parker, eRobertParker.com
