About This Wine
80% Grenache, with 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and a dash of Cinsault. Marcoux's Châteauneuf is drawn from 13 parcels of vines biodynamically farmed vines dotted across the appellation. There is a wide range of soil types from sandy soils in Charbonnières, to red clay and galets in L'Arnesque and Les Bouquets, to limestone and marne in Les Esquirons and Beaurenard, to red clay and gravel in Gallimardes, Les Serres and Les Plagnes. This Marcoux are able to produce a wine that truly reflects the Châteauneuf terroir as a whole. It also allows Marcoux to craft balanced wines year in year out as each parcel is vinified separately prior to the blending each year.
The average age of the vines that supply fruit for this wine is already impressive (50+ years old) and that number is significantly boosted this year by the addition of Marcoux's 100+ year old vines in Charbonnières, les Esquierons and les Gallimardes (entirely declassified from the Vieilles Vignes cuvée).
The Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, the bulk of the production at Domaine de Marcoux, is sourced from 13 sites spread over a wide range of terroirs. This allows for a wine that is both dense but pure and lifted with beguiling aromatics. In general terms Marcoux is always inclined towards red-fruit flavors with a smoky stoniness that emerges with age.
