Vintage 2022
It was a challenging year due to several factors, including a strong heatwave early in spring and a severe water deficit that lasted until August. Then, on August 14, 2022, a powerful storm—or rather, almost a tornado—brought hail and strong winds, causing considerable damage across almost all of our vineyards. Our vines, however, surprised us with their resilience, especially the Grenache. Despite the intense heat of the vintage, our red wines have turned out fleshy, refined and beautifully balanced.
Terroir
Several soil types compose the estate, including clay-limestone, sand-clay, and sandstone strewn with the famous galets roulés.
Vinification & Ageing
The grapes are partially destemmed and placed into vats, including truncated and stainless-steel vats. The wine undergoes the gentlest extraction possible, with minimal intervention and a long maceration period of four weeks. Ageing is restrained, taking place partly in foudre, truncated vats and barrels, with 15% new wood and 10% older barrels, for 12 months to allow the wine's material to infuse. After numerous tasting sessions, the final blend is determined, with bottling taking place six months later.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a vibrant, exuberant nose, with remarkable black fruit aromas of blackcurrant and blueberries, complemented by graphite and subtle smoky notes. On the palate, there is a seductive harmony between aroma and texture. Fine tannins show no hardness, while barely perceptible oak contributes to a balanced, effortless yet racy character. The mineral finish is firmly anchored in the distinctive La Nerthe terroir, evoking its famous pebbly soils. This 2022 vintage offers beautiful energy and can be enjoyed in its youth or cellared for another decade.

Ideal with suckling lamb and seasonal vegetables, beef cheek stew, or cassoulet.

Wines of Rhone Valley
The Rhone wine region is situation in the south of France in the Rhone Valley. The region is split into north and south with distinctively different winemaking styles. In the north, the main grape used is Syrah and is sometimes blended with white varietals. In the south however, reds are a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. You may be familiar with this sort of blend; in Australia it is labelled GSM.
Wines are produced under various Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) designations. The most prestigious of which is Chateauneuf-du-Pape. You may also have heard of other AOC names such as Gigondas, Hermitage, Lirac, St Joseph. Wines coming from these and other AOCs are all on the higher end of the market.
On the value end we have wines produced in Cotes-du-Rhone AOC. Cotes-du-Rhone often refers to wines made in the Rhone Valley that do not fall under any other AOC, often from the flatter areas around Southern Rhone. However, it also does include the fringes of well-respected northern appellations as well. In terms of volume, a majority of Rhone wine falls under the Cotes-du-Rhone AOC and it offers some of the best value in France and even some first-rate and age-worthy reds.
Full-bodied and flavourful white wine blends are also made in the region. These are typically a combination of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier.
