Salomon Wine
(0 products)Founded in 1799, Salomon is a wine estate with a long tradition. The Salomon family own 20 hectares of vineyards which are planted with equal amounts of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner as well as a tiny amount of Gelber Traminer on the best terraced sites along the Danube River in Stein and Krems. Today Bert and Gertrud Salomon, the seventh generation of the family winemaking tradition, run the vineyards, winery and cellar. Salomon wines stem from the best vineyard terraces in Stein and Krems an der Donau. Kremstal, the surrounding wine region, is practically synonymous with an age-old wine culture. The symbiosis of loess and ancient stone soils with the Danube-influenced microclimate and old vineyard terraces yields the optimal growth conditions for aromatic, elegant white wines. The town of Krems, especially the part called Stein, is geologically similar to the neighbouring Wachau (mostly weathered primary rock soils). It is therefore not surprising that both Grüner Veltliner and Riesling dominate as wines with these mineral qualities. All of the top vineyard sites of the domaine are included in the vineyard classification of the Danube region: with the designation of Erste Lage. Matching each grape variety with the right soil and climate has always been the main focus of Salomon’s viticultural efforts.
