97 POINTS - Halliday Wines
"From a 30-plus-year-old vineyard in Gembrook that TarraWarra now leases and has started major renovations on, Sarah Fagan has crafted a superb first-up wine. No mlf and matured in 15% new puncheons. A very bright green gold. You'll find aromas of subtle marine scents, nectarine and pink grapefruit. It's just as good, too, on the chalky-textured, elegant, fine-boned and tension-packed palate. A gorgeous wine that will slowly unfurl over the next five to seven years at least."
Pale straw colour, indicative of its freshness and youth. Lovely intense aromatics based around grilled nuts, saline notes and a background sea spray lift. Undercurrent of gun smoke leads to added layers of complexity, edge and tension. Intense concentration and depth, anchored by a savoury core of roasted hazelnut and almond praline. A fine thread of saline minerality drives purity and precision across the palate, lending both tension and clarity. Subtle nuances of wet stone and crushed chalk emerge through the mid-palate, adding a textural complexity that lingers long into the finish.

Yarra Valley Wine

The Yarra Valley wine region is the most important area of wine production in Victoria today, and with its proximity to Melbourne, also the most visited in the state.
Yarra Valley is split into the Upper Yarra and the valley floor. The Upper Yarra is cooler in climate due to its elevation and coupled with younger, fertile, red soils produces most of the region’s notable varietals: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The valley floor is warmer and has predominantly grey soils with pockets of granite and limestone.
Pinot noir has long been considered a notoriously difficult variety to grow. However, the cool climate and longer growing seasons of the Yarra Valley allow the fruit to develop full flavoured and ripe character.
Chardonnay in the past has long been associated with a deep oily, buttery style that experiences full malolactic fermentation and great amounts of oak. This style has since fallen out of favour and wine makers in the Yarra Valley have capitalized on this trend to produce leaner, acid driven Chardonnays that are closer in style to those from Burgundy.
