About This Wine
Our very first vintage of Vermentino grown and made here in Australia was in 2004, since then it has become our trademark go-to white wine leading the way for many wineries around Australia who now make this wonderful variety. It was very clear to us in the early days that varieties like Vermentino were the key to sustainable wine making in Australia, although grown in a warm to hot climate like Heathcote, it retains beautiful freshness, clean aromatic aromas all at relatively low alcohol levels, a wine that looks and drinks like it comes from a cool climate.
Chalmers Vermentino is a truly unique iteration of the Mediterranean grape, pressed and wild ferment in tank, the 2022 vintage was cool, bringing out characters of Meyer lemon, white stone fruits, raw pine nuts, salt bush and lifted native florals. The palate is crisp and refreshing, just what you want to drink in spring and summer on the beach with some fish and chips or gobbling down some prawn and pork dumplings.

Heathcote Wines
The Heathcote wine region in central Victoria is well known for its excellent red wines, most notably Shiraz. Heathcote reds are defined by their inky depth of colour, and deep, dark complex fruit flavours. This is combined with well balanced tannins and acid that help to give the wines great cellaring potential.
All this is made possible by the terroir. The Heathcote region sits at between 160m and 380m elevation with a temperate climate of even rainfall. The soils are rich in calcium red soils made up of “greenstone”. These soils are prized for their water retention capabilities allowing them to drain freely but still hold enough water throughout the growing season. The grapes that result are small and concentred which in turn make rich concentrated wines.
