This is the wine that put Brash Higgins on the map: a wild, amphora-raised Nero d’Avola from Australia’s original planting of the variety. Sourced from the organically farmed Omensetter Vineyard, this 2023 release is a pure, expressive take on Sicilian heritage—through a Vale lens.
Fermented with 10% whole bunches in locally made, beeswax-lined amphorae, the wine remained on skins for six months, extracting structure and building texture in the most gentle, natural way. No pumps. No fining. Just time, clay, and intuition.
The result is as evocative as ever—aromas of pomegranate, orange peel, cherry and stem ginger swirl into a palate that’s vivid, spicy and savoury. There’s a Negroni-like tang that adds intrigue, balanced by fine-grained tannins and mouthwatering acidity.
Whether you’re into Italian reds or curious Aussie originals, this Nero is both a benchmark and a cult classic.
