This rosé is made from 100% Nebbiolo, from the acclaimed Malakoff vineyard in the Pyrenees in Western Victoria. Bone dry and full of character, this is great drinking. It's pretty and floral on the nose, and pulls a bit of a trick with the colour - despite being pale, it's rammed with texture and flavour! Cherry, rhubarb, salt and vanilla all jostle with some tangy acidity and whisper fine tannins. Spot on.
Some wineries are headed by those who seem to have inherited their skills from generations of winemakers. Others get there from raw talent, ambition, and a hell of a lot of hard work. The team behind Yarra Valley’s Fetherston Vintners definitely sit in the latter camp, and their dedication to exploring and experimenting with lesser-known varietals is more than paying off.
Fetherston Vintners is run by Chris Lawrence, a former top chef with a serious commitment to flavour, and Camille Koll, who earned her stripes working for Domaine Chandon. Together, their hard-earned knowledge of grape varietals and flavour profiles combines to create something really rather special; a modern, dynamic Yarra Valley winery, unafraid to take risks and stick its neck out to get the results it deserves. If you haven’t yet discovered the fruits of Chris and Camille’s passion project, well... it’s high time you did something about it.

Yarra Valley Wine

The Yarra Valley wine region is the most important area of wine production in Victoria today, and with its proximity to Melbourne, also the most visited in the state.
Yarra Valley is split into the Upper Yarra and the valley floor. The Upper Yarra is cooler in climate due to its elevation and coupled with younger, fertile, red soils produces most of the region’s notable varietals: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The valley floor is warmer and has predominantly grey soils with pockets of granite and limestone.
Pinot noir has long been considered a notoriously difficult variety to grow. However, the cool climate and longer growing seasons of the Yarra Valley allow the fruit to develop full flavoured and ripe character.
Chardonnay in the past has long been associated with a deep oily, buttery style that experiences full malolactic fermentation and great amounts of oak. This style has since fallen out of favour and wine makers in the Yarra Valley have capitalized on this trend to produce leaner, acid driven Chardonnays that are closer in style to those from Burgundy.
