About This Wine
Drawn from 10 vineyards, with vines between 25 and 80 years of age, this was raised with only 20% new oak. It's a wonderfully pure and voluptuous wine with layers of brambly blackberry and anise fruit, but there is also serious depth and characteristic austerity from the tannins. A superb and classic Gevrey-Chambertin that is delicious now, if you feel like something with some old-vine structure, or will comfortably age for a decade (and likely considerably longer!).
"Here too the nose is presently dominated by a reductive funk. On the plus side there is both good volume and energy to the rounded and supple middle weight flavors that abruptly change character on the powerful, serious and youthfully austere finale. I like the balance and the punch though this will need a few years of bottle age first." 88-91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound issue 69
