95 POINTS - Wine Pilot, Ray Jordan
"A mighty good example of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon. Comes off a block planted in 1948 with an unknown clone and made in a similar way to the Grenache and Shiraz with open fermentation, indigenous yeasts and no sulphur, tannin or acid added. As you might expect it has the highest percentage of new French oak influence which is easily accommodated by the fruit intensity. There is a slightly leather, iron filings rust-like character which I find most appealing as it complements the vibrant dark fruits. Distinctive." 30 November 2022
Sweet vanilla, mulberry jelly and choc mint biscuits. Pop a lamb roast in the oven now! Plenty of chewy tannin, black currant, anise, cherry berry and dusty vanilla oak to round out the palate. Chocolate and toasty, plenty of structure and ageing potential for those who have the patience to wait.

Critic reviews
James Halliday – A robust, quintessential maritime cabernet. The Vale is capable of good ones and this is up there. Blackcurrant, redcurrant, damson plum, saltbush and sage. Oodles of cedar and oak-derived mocha and vanilla from a couple of years in wood, presumably plenty new. A bit drying across the finish, but there is ample extract, pulse and linger to suggest that this will age very well. - Ned Goodwin MW, 5 October 2022
