Produced from Bernard 76 clone Chardonnay vines on our Wrattonbully vineyard, the 2022 vintage produced very small crops leading to concentrated flavours and excellent acid balance. Careful handling with a judicious use of oak and lees stirring has crafted a well structured and complex chardonnay with a generous creamy palate.

James Halliday – “A 30yo vineyard planted on ebbs of low-yielding limestone. Hand picked, sorted and fermented spontaneously in a large (3000L) oval vessel, on full solids, where it remained for 9 months. This may well be the best wine under the Pepper Tree banner, tucking in a skein of mineral match-struck pungency amidst folds of stone fruits, nougatine, a waxy mandarin scent with a lick of quinine to kumquat bitterness to finish. Impressive palate-staining intensity. The oak, nicely nestled. A countenance of generosity melded with a contemporary verve. Delicious drinking that is more reminiscent of a flavourful wine from California than the more linear Aussie norm.” - Ned Godwin
