Cameron Douglas
"Opaque appearance with dark colour staining of the tears sheeting across the class, bright and youthful appearance. The bouquet says it all, ripeness, power, concentration, smoke and wood, chocolate and dark berries. Violets and charred nut, new leather and boot polish, black currant, blackberries and sweet cigar tobacco leaf layer. Full-bodied, dry, taut, youthful and concentrated as the wine touches the palate. Aromas from the bouquet manifest as flavours on the palate, plus violet and forest spices. Bold firm tannins and acidity are easily contrasted by the core fruit flavours and impacts of barrel. Lengthy finish, a lovely example, great drinking today though likely best from 2029 through 2045. Exceptional value."
This collection pays tribute to John Riddoch’s multifaceted capabilities, and the many vocations he had in his lifetime, reflected by the ultimate expression of Coonawarra’s varietal diversity. Named after the founding father of the Coonawarra, also known for his fine wool clip.
The 2021 Riddoch The Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon is an iconic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibits fresh blackcurrant brambly aromas, smooth, silky textures and generous flavours combined with underlying cedar oak. Aged in new and seasoned French oak barrels for about 12 months. Perfect for drinking now or may be cellared for many years to come.

Coonawarra Wine
The Coonawarra wine region is most known for its Cabernet Sauvignon that is produced on red “terra rossa” soil. This clay soil is one of the most notable in the “New World” of wine covering an area of only 15kmx2km. The terra rossa soil also overlies soft, penetrable limestone and it is this uncommon combination that makes this region so special.
“Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted variety in the world and Coonawarra is one of the few regions where free draining soils and maritime ripening conditions achieve the ultimate varietal expression.” Coonawarra.org
From Coonawarra Cabernet you can expect a medium bodied red with powerful yet polished tannins, luscious dark berry fruit, herb and mint flavours as well as satisfying length.
While half of region’s production is Cabernet, the limestone soils also suit planting of Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon blanc.
