Samuel's Gorge is a small McLaren Vale winery established in 2003 by winemaker Justin McNamee, housed in an 1853 farm shed atop a ridge overlooking the Onkaparinga River National Park to the north and the ocean to the south. The focus is on five key varietals: Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Graciano and Tempranillo.
The Samuel's Gorge McLaren Vale Shiraz 2023 is a distinctly Australian Shiraz with an Old World reference for texture, complexity and harmony. It is driven by aromatics, silky texture and structural intensity that make it both approachable young and well suited to cellaring.
Grapes are sourced from some of McLaren Vale's top growers. Winemaking is hands-on, with indigenous yeasts, long slow ferments and basket pressing, carried out in the outdoor winery under a lean-to. The resulting wine is intriguing, focused and detailed — a signature expression of the region and the Samuel's Gorge style.
