Critic reviews

James Halliday – A textural feast! It's chewy, chalky, puckering and shows deeper, complex fruit characters amongst minerally elements and light, nutty savouriness. Serious expression here. Scents of lime, blackcurrant, wet slate and flint. Similar flavours, very intense and concentrated with bristling acidity underlying. Boom. Big impact. It's a compelling wine for its complexity. - Mike Bennie

About this Wine

VINEYARD
The fruit for the 2022 Atlas Wines Eden Valley Riesling comes from a vineyard planted on an eastern facing slope, (protected from harsh afternoon sun), at 440m altitude in the heart of the Eden Valley subregion of the Barossa and, is delicately expressive of this site. The 2022 growing season was long and mild, the kind most Riesling winemakers dream about.

WINEMAKING
The fruit was harvested, chilled and gently pressed in reductive conditions, and the free-run juice was allowed to settle at low temperatures before being racked and fermented using cultured yeasts. It was fermented to complete dryness then stabilised, filtered and bottled immediately to capture the natural freshness and fruit characteristics of the vineyard, and has been allowed to rest in the bottle prior to release.

THE WINE
Very pale straw-coloured in the glass, the nose displays classic Eden Valley characters, with delicate floral aromas and powerful lemon-lime fruit with hints of talc and wet stone. The palate balances delicate floral and mineral fruit with lemon and grapefruit flavours wound around a taut acid backbone that gives the wine both intensity and length.

Serve chilled and allow to warm up a little in the glass to reveal this exceptional vintage’s aromas.

A cool, dry vintage with high natural acidity, the wine is drinking beautifully now and will cellar well for many years to come.
