Critic reviews

James Halliday – A flavoursome and crisply satisfying roussanne that sits pale in the glass and cuts a lemony path across the palate. Hints of crunchy nashi pear, soft spice, green apple sorbet, wildflowers, honeysuckle, crushed stone and almond paste. Fine, vivid acidity provides a cracking cadence, and there's a great pear and lemon-drop flourish as the wine finishes, crunchy, sapid and dry.

Vintage Vigilant

We aim to have all wines above $30 be vintage specific. In the case the listed vintage is out of stock and you note you would like that particular vintage, we will inform you via email for approval to go ahead.

About this Wine

Pale straw in colour, clear and bright. Pear skin and honeysuckle. Thyme and cactus flowers at dawn. Fresh hay just cut and beeswax straight from the hive. This white wine has a striking aromatic quality but without any strident and shrieking aspects. It arrests your olfactory attention in the nicest possible way. Some white peach and some fennel; some red apple and some ripe citrus. Roussanne purity without any of the variety’s oft awkward flabby and broad, flat flavours. This example is pert and upright. Certainly there is some grip and some weight and some texture, but a long lean line of acidity acts as a deep and deeply weighted keel. Flavours of pear juice just squeezed, tropical fruits on the just (just) ripe side of the ledger, citrus and quince.

Barossa Valley Wine

The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.

A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.

Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
