The Wine Front – This is a finely crafted Pinot gris with both elegance and flavour on its side. It tastes of pear and grapefruit mostly though there’s a floral, almost honeysuckle-like aspect here too. This feels ultra-faithful to a ‘summer fruits’ vibe; at various times I saw lime and fuzzy peach in the wine but mostly it smells and tastes of a bowl of fruit, fresh picked. That’s a pretty good way for a wine to present. 90 Points. Campbell Mattinson, Winefront

About This Wine

Sam has been steadfast in his approach to making superb Pinot Gris, starting with quality fruit, farmed sustainably, using organic, biological and biodynamic practices. Ensuring yields are kept low and handpicking, wholebunch pressing and allowing natural ferments to occur. The wine is allowed to go thought malo and sit on lees in barrel for 6 months. Five clones of Pinot Gris (from Friuli, Alsace and the Pfalz) Sam selected and planted, each adding layers and complexity to the resulting wine.

All of this attention to quality viticulture and winemaking results in a wine with superb expression. On the Nose there is lifted Ginger blossom, spice and waxy pear fruit. In the mouth the wine is beautifully fresh and minerally, with a textural mid palate showing good fruit weight of pears and lime all held together by an energetic back bone. Loads of flavour and personality with texture but never oliy or heavy. Delicious!

Mornington Peninsula Wines

South of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula grape growing region has a cool, maritime climate that is most known for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production. Other varieties that have seen some success here include Pinot Gris and Tempranillo.

However, it does seem that Pinot Noir is their focus judging from the fact that The Mornington Peninsula International Pinot Noir Celebration is held once every two years. The event displays the region’s capabilities in making some of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir in front of local and international audiences.
