About this Wine

Getting access to fruit from the Smart Vineyard is a bit of a coup. These vines were put in the ground back in ’55 up in the hills of Clarendon, and they produce some of the most distinct Grenache in the region. Brad (AKA Brash Higgins) hasn’t messed with it too much, but he’s definitely put his stamp on it.

For the 2022, he went with 50% whole bunches and a wild ferment, followed by a long nap - 20 months - in seasoned French puncheons. It’s got a real presence in the glass. You get a hit of dark cherry and choc-raspberry right up front, backed by hazelnut and spice. It’s slinky and soft but has enough grip to let you know it’s serious. There’s a warmth to it that feels very traditional McLaren Vale, but with that textural 'new school' lift Brad is famous for.

The label features artwork by Sydney painter Alesandro Ljubicic, which matches the bold, vibrant feel of the juice inside. With only 60 dozen produced, this is a rare look at a Grand Cru site through the Brash lens.
