Critic reviews

James Halliday – "Magic moments with Pinot Noir. Svelte and silky texture, lots of red fruit, sweet and peppery spice, alpine herbs in perfume. The palate more of the raspberry, red cherry of the bouquet, but with touches of charcuterie, white mushroom, dried seaweed, sweet spice and a light dusting of pepper. Tannins are succulent and refreshing, too, and of high quality. Elegance personified."

About this Wine
Elegance personified..." - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
Style
Delicate and perfumed with a distinct, savoury edge. The 2024 season delivered all the intensity required, with a slightly darker fruit spectrum and great concentration of flavour. The palate is supple yet structured, with firmer lines lending shape and persistence, balancing fragrance with depth and quiet power.
Season
Cool and wet conditions during flowering interrupted berry set, resulting in smaller, lighter bunches. The remainder of the season was mostly mild and dry, with a few well-timed rain events supporting vine growth and health. The result was low yields, high acidity and great flavour.
Vineyard
Our Lenswood Vineyard is planted mainly to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, at 455 – 500m elevation. Undulating with east and west facing aspects, the soils are brown loams over clay with broken shale on the ridges. The vineyard was planted in 1999 and is 20 hectares in total.
Vinification
Hand-picked and hand sorted, then long slow ferments in wood and stainless steel vats, followed by 10 months in 500 litre puncheons, 30% new.
Cellar
Will reward careful cellaring for up to 15 years.

Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. Because of this, many different varietals are planted here with the most dominant being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It is generally thought of as a cooler region, especially when compared to neighbouring Barossa to the north and Mclaren vale and Langhorne Creek to the south.

NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been popular in Australia for a while now, but Adelaide hills Sauvignon Blanc (the most planted grape in the region) could be considered the Aussie Savvy Blanc. From www.adelaidehillswine.com.au about their Sauvignon Blanc: “Wines that are textured, edgy, vibrant and dry with exceptional fruit definition, length and crispness that marry superbly with summer seafood.”

You can also find some cool climate shiraz from the Adelaide hills, defying the more common big bold style that is usually seen in Australian Shiraz.
