Considered by many as NZ's greatest and most collectible wine. The pedigree, the quality, Coleraine can stand toe to toe with any of the great Bordeaux blends in the world.
"Tremendous persistence and wonderful structure...A great wine." - Huon Hooke
“Elegant…perfumed and expressive.” - James Suckling
“Excellent…Outstanding.” - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
“Beautiful.” - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
When picked in beautiful condition, cabernet sauvignon from Hawke's Bay is capable of incredible varietal complexity, and even more so when from different rootstocks, clones, site aspects, soils, and mesoclimates. Always a jewel in the crown of Te Mata, these cabernet vineyards are the strength and hallmark of Coleraine ’22.
The blend of 84% cabernet sauvignon, 13% merlot and 3% cabernet franc reflects this.
The year 2024 is a golden celebration at New Zealand's oldest winery, Te Mata Estate, a sparkling half-century anniversary of continuous ownership. The highlight of this celebratory year is the release of Coleraine ’22, showcasing the greatness of Te Mata cabernet sauvignon – on display at the highest level since the legendary ’82, the inaugural Coleraine.
The succession of vintage variation is what makes Coleraine so collectable. Thought-provoking and captivating, with layers of varietal expression made precise by years of collective experience, Coleraine ’22 offers power and weight alongside signature restraint and finesse.

Wines of Hawke's Bay

The oldest wine producing region in New Zealand, Hawkes bay is located on the east coast of the North Island.
Hawkes bay is split into a few subregions, the most notable of these are Gimblett Gravels, Bridge Pa Triangle and Te Mata Special Character Zone. These subregions are known for producing some of the best reds in the country, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The top blends from these regions are on par with top level Bordeaux blends from around the world.
White wine is also produced in Hawke’s Bay, with Chardonnay in the lead in terms of volume with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Viogner following behind.
