About this Wine
A 3rd Classified Growth of 1855, Chateau d'Issan is produced from 44 hectares of vineyards owned by the property in the Margaux appellation. The vineyard is an average of 35 years old, planted in gravel and alluvial hills. The aging of the wine is carried out in barrels, of which 50% is new. The Chateau d’Issan 2016 features a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot.

At Chateau d'Issan, the climatic conditions of the 2016 vintage were quite exceptional. From January 1st to the beginning of June, the level of rainfall was quite high, filling up the water reserves but presenting a risk of bad flowering. However, the rain stopped during the first week of June and the flowering took place in an optimal and even manner. The summer settled then and brought with it warmth and dryness, before the rain on September 13th, which helped the maturation of the berries. The Indian summer followed, with a good thermal amplitude between day and night, allowing for optimal maturation of the berries right up until the harvest, which took place between September 29th and October 19th.

When tasted, the Chateau d'Issan 2016 develops on the nose a fairly classic bouquet but is still a bit reserved. On the palate, the wine reveals itself to be medium bodied, with crisp tannins and great finesse. It has a good concentration and is very clear. The Château d'Issan 2016 also displays beautiful balance, offering great salinity and a finish with a wonderful aromatic persistence and remarkable precision. Excellent aging potential.
