La Clavelle n°8 is the product of the unexpected. It elevates the excellence of a rare moment in a Grenache Blanc plot, known as La Clavelle n°8, in the hills above Cairanne. Under an excessively radiant sun, this plot of vines, over 40 years old, distinguished itself superbly during the summer of 2019. The grapes burst with flavor, and very early during the harvest, we recognized that the quality of the grapes was exceptional. An aromatic breakthrough occurred, leading us to believe that we were witnessing the remarkable opportunity to reveal the rare aromatic signature of Grenache Blanc.
The wine's color is characteristic of Grenache Blanc, with extremely pale hues and almond-green highlights. The nose offers aromas of fresh almonds along with subtle honeyed notes. A tension and minerality reinforce these aromatics. The palate reveals a surprising breadth and radiance for a Grenache, while retaining a certain smoothness and finishing with a beautiful length. The profile is taut, precise, expressive, even atypical, almost audacious. The varietal character of Grenache Blanc is truly on display.
This cuvée is not for everyone; divisive and unique, it reveals the original specificities of this grape variety, which possesses a rare signature.
