Born under the sign of audacity and creativity, this wine celebrates the excellence of a small, unusual plot of Caladoc, high on the slopes of the Montagne de Ventabren in Cairanne. This plot distinguished itself during the summer of 2019, yielding a wine of unparalleled darkness. A Caladoc plot in a Cairanne terroir is in itself an ampelographic rarity, especially given that the vines date back to the 1950s and 60s. We quickly realized that this rarity would be superbly expressed in the 2019 vintage and therefore decided to vinify it separately. A year in oak barrels has enhanced the impetuous character of this 2019 Caladoc. This wine is exceptional, a deep, dark red, opulent and smooth. The rare expression of a top-tier Caladoc.
The wine's intensely deep, almost black color inspired its name. The initial nose is marked by a mentholated expression, with a hint of eucalyptus. Notes of small black berries, blackcurrant, and blackberry complete this aromatic profile. On the palate, it's an explosion of opulence. The richness and power of this wine are channeled with elegance and freshness by the oak. All the power and smooth, dark fruitiness of a Caladoc, crafted without compromise, are present.
