About this Wine

The 2024 Ekin Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills is a vibrant and expressive wine, displaying a brilliant medium red hue in the glass. Aromas of bright red fruits are lifted by delicate floral notes and subtle hints of charcuterie, creating an inviting and savoury bouquet. The palate is layered and complex, showing ripe red berry flavours balanced by earthy savoury nuances and fine, firm tannins. Elegant and structured, the wine carries excellent length and poise, making it both approachable now and suitable for further cellaring.

Crafted from a blend of MV6, 18GM, and G8V7 Pinot Noir clones grown at elevations between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, the vineyard combines free-draining limestone soils over sandy loam with carefully monitored drip irrigation to support vine balance and fruit concentration. Fruit was harvested through a combination of hand picking and machine harvesting, with handpicked parcels cooled for 24 hours prior to processing. Approximately twenty percent whole bunch fruit was fermented in small open-top fermenters, while the remaining fruit was fermented as whole berries following a short cold soak. Ferments were carefully monitored and plunged daily before pressing and maturation in seasoned French oak for ten months. Bottled with minimal fining and filtration, the wine retains purity, texture, and regional character.

Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. Because of this, many different varietals are planted here with the most dominant being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It is generally thought of as a cooler region, especially when compared to neighbouring Barossa to the north and Mclaren vale and Langhorne Creek to the south.

NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been popular in Australia for a while now, but Adelaide hills Sauvignon Blanc (the most planted grape in the region) could be considered the Aussie Savvy Blanc. From www.adelaidehillswine.com.au about their Sauvignon Blanc: “Wines that are textured, edgy, vibrant and dry with exceptional fruit definition, length and crispness that marry superbly with summer seafood.”

You can also find some cool climate shiraz from the Adelaide hills, defying the more common big bold style that is usually seen in Australian Shiraz.
