WINEMAKING
Sourced from exceptional old vines in the renowned Ebenezer sub-district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley, this wine is produced from vines ranging between 35 and 120 years of age, yielding around three tonnes per hectare. Fermentation took place in small open fermenters, with extended maceration employed to build fine, supple tannins and an approachable structure from an early age. The wine was matured for 16 months in French oak hogsheads, comprising 40% new oak and 60% seasoned barrels, adding complexity without overshadowing the fruit.

2023 VINTAGE
The 2023 Barossa Valley vintage was shaped by abundant spring rainfall, which replenished soil moisture before a dry, mild summer free from heatwaves. A long, leisurely growing season and late harvest extending beyond Easter allowed the fruit to achieve exceptional flavour development while retaining freshness and balance. The result is a wine of vibrant colour, purity and effortless intensity. TASTING NOTE Deep magenta with a vibrant crimson rim, the bouquet reveals layers of fresh plum, damson and blackberry compote, lifted by notes of cracked black pepper, nutmeg and cardamom. The palate is bright, energetic and beautifully balanced, echoing the dark fruit profile while adding fresh blackberry, anise and dark chocolate. Silky tannins and lively acidity carry the wine to a long, polished finish, making it equally rewarding in its youth or after extended cellaring. – Ben Glaetzes finish where both variet

Barossa Valley Wine

The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.

A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.

Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
