Strikingly black-red and violet in colour. Aromas of grated dark chocolate and a dusting of cocoa; Christmas Cake or rather pudding. Red and dark berries at the late Summer end of the spectrum. It is the interplay between the dark fruit perfume (blackberries, blueberries and mulberries) and the heightened aromatics of plum, prune and fresh herbs that make the wine so enticing. A persistent line of spice and an enduring acid tension. Super concentrated dark berry fruit flavours roll in tightly coiled spoils of rushing taste and texture. Green herbs and forest floor in the background, then it rolls and rolls again before yet another wave of fruit flavour. It seems both at once a rounded and warm red wine, but then a taut and clean one.

Barossa Valley Wine

The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.
A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.
Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.

James Halliday – A good-smelling wine, this one. Plush and ripe plummy fruits with hints of blueberry pie, licorice, purple floral tones, dark chocolate, bay leaf and earth. Some blackberry comes through on the palate with creamy, chocolatey oak, silty tannins and a velvety flow of fruit as the wine fades away.
