About This Wine
Earning 99-points from Halliday and priced under $60, the 2017 John Duval "Entity" is a drop dead gorgeous red that will make just about anyone a fan of Barossa Valley Shiraz. We’ve been coming back to Duval’s wines for years now as few winemakers offer such consistent quality at such insanely low prices. Honestly, when you pour yourself a glass of this full-bodied, silky red you’ll be nothing short of dumbfounded that this much goodness can be had for such an attractive price. John Duval, the former winemaker at Penfolds, was the man behind over 15 vintages of Australia’s most legendary wine: Penfolds “Grange.” Which is to say Mr. Duval knows a thing are two about making great wine. Hence when he set out on his own, there was little doubt about the further success which awaited him. The 2017 "Entity" is a classic example of the amazing work being done of this estate and is a testament to John Duval’s prodigious talents. Lock-in your bottles soon as wines with such an amazing price to quality ratio never hang around for long.

Barossa Valley Wine
The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.
A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.
Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
World Wine – From old vineyards in Krondorf, Marananga and Eden Valley, open-fermented with submerged cap (header board), matured for 15 months in French oak (35% new). Succulent, rich and powerful, with predominantly black fruits and some spice. The hallmarks are its supple mouthfeel and effortless balance.
