About this Wine

97 POINTS - Wine Pilot, Ray Jordan
"Here is a slightly different take on Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s based on estate grown clones 169 and 337, and is just 13% alc/vol. So lower in alcohol with more bright high energy red fruits evident on both the nose and palate. This was an excellent vintage in the Barossa and as a result Cabernet is a bright light, both seamless and beautifully integrated. It’s intense yet it delivers with medium body with a light dusty overall that complements nicely. Outstanding alternative style."

The 2021 vintage was in a word ‘Brilliant’. Barossa saw cool and dry conditions which has produced excellent quality reds and whites. Great growing conditions combined with good yields created a memorable harvest, with all wines showing a wide array of aromas and flavours. Soft supple tannins are in abundance in the reds which has ensured easy drinking in their youth, with careful cellaring also reaping rewards. The highlight for 2021 was the overall quality, a genuine 10/10 season.

Barossa Valley Wine

The Barossa Valley wine region has historically and currently still is one of Australia's most prestigious premium wine producing regions. Located just 60km north east of Adelaide city centre, the climate there is very hot and dry which is perfect for the big bold reds the area is famous for.

A straight Shiraz is what Barossa is most well known for, however Rhone blends, such as Shiraz Cabernet are also very popular. While much less prevalent, white wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon) are planted on the higher altitude hillsides where the ocean breeze cools temperatures down to a level suitable for producing these varieties as well.

Some of Australia's earliest Shiraz plantings can be found here dating as far back as the 1850's. While not always a guarantee of quality, it might be worth seeking out and trying one of the region's "old vine shiraz" if you haven't yet.
