Valdesil Montenovo Blanco 2015
This is a seriously impressive entry-level wine from one of the very top Galician growers.
Fashioned from the Estate's younger vineyards spread across the Valdeorran villages of Rubiá, A Rúa, Larouco, Petín and O Bolo, each plot is vinified independently (or grouped by similar soil-type) and the wines' malo suppressed. With their cadre of old vines and magnificent highland terroirs, Valdesil have become a heavyweight champion in the world of Godello.
This crystalline example is pulpy and racy with a chalky, almost Chablis-like tangy note squeezed into the invigorating flavours of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and Comice pear.
World Wine – Pale yellow. Nervy, spicy and focused on the nose, displaying intense citrus and orchard fruit aromas plus hints of salty minerals and jasmine. At once juicy and seamless in texture, offering bitter lemon pith and quinine flavors that gain in depth on the back half. Finishes with very good persistence, echoing minerality and a lingering floral note. 91 points.
In a mixed or straight case: $28.49
