A wine that can vary in style and flavour depending on where and how the grapes have been grown, Montalto’s take on Pinot Gris has always been to create a wine of individualistic character with unique textures and bouquets. At a glance, Pinot Gris is a dry, medium to full-bodied wine that delivers fruity flavours such as apple, pear and melon. However, the cool conditions and unique terroir of Montalto’s coastal vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula, accompanied by our meticulous vinification processes, have allowed us to deliver a diverse and distinctive range of Pinot Gris wines featuring flavours not seen before. Those seeking to educate their palate on Pinot Gris will not be disappointed by the exceptional range Montalto has to offer.
The fruit for our range of Pinot Gris has been sourced from three of our vineyards along the peninsula; Main Ridge, Red Hill and Tuerong. This means our Pinot Gris selection is fresh, intensely aromatic and vigorously complex. Pairing delicately blended medleys of intensely fragrant fruits such as Beurre Bosc pear, Nashi Pear and lemon sherbet with special notes such as rose petal, liquorice root, apple blossom, oatmeal and almond paste, Montalto’s Pinot Gris delivers expressive yet individualistic flavour.

Mornington Peninsula Wines

South of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula grape growing region has a cool, maritime climate that is most known for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production. Other varieties that have seen some success here include Pinot Gris and Tempranillo.
However, it does seem that Pinot Noir is their focus judging from the fact that The Mornington Peninsula International Pinot Noir Celebration is held once every two years. The event displays the region’s capabilities in making some of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir in front of local and international audiences.
