About this Wine

Fletcher Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo 2012 is a rare Australian expression of Nebbiolo crafted by Australian-born winemaker Dave Fletcher, who has built his reputation working with the variety in Piedmont, Italy. Produced from cool-climate Adelaide Hills fruit, the wine reflects Fletcher's deep understanding of Nebbiolo and his desire to create an Australian interpretation that remains faithful to the grape's classic character.

After more than a decade of bottle age, the wine displays an evolved bouquet of dried rose petals, tar, red cherry, cranberry, orange peel, tobacco leaf, truffle, and earthy spice. The palate is finely structured and savoury, with mature red fruit flavours framed by Nebbiolo's hallmark acidity and persistent tannins. Layers of dried herbs, leather, forest floor, and spice add complexity, while the extended bottle age has softened the wine's youthful firmness and allowed tertiary nuances to emerge. Nebbiolo is renowned for developing aromas of tar and roses with age, and the 2012 vintage now shows these characteristics beautifully.

Elegant, savoury, and highly distinctive, Fletcher Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo 2012 bridges the gap between traditional Piedmont and modern Australian fine wine. The cool-climate conditions of the Adelaide Hills contribute freshness and aromatic lift, while Fletcher's restrained winemaking preserves the grape's transparency and sense of place. It is an excellent match for game dishes, slow-cooked meats, truffle-based cuisine, and aged hard cheeses.

Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. Because of this, many different varietals are planted here with the most dominant being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It is generally thought of as a cooler region, especially when compared to neighbouring Barossa to the north and Mclaren vale and Langhorne Creek to the south.

NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been popular in Australia for a while now, but Adelaide hills Sauvignon Blanc (the most planted grape in the region) could be considered the Aussie Savvy Blanc. From www.adelaidehillswine.com.au about their Sauvignon Blanc: “Wines that are textured, edgy, vibrant and dry with exceptional fruit definition, length and crispness that marry superbly with summer seafood.”

You can also find some cool climate shiraz from the Adelaide hills, defying the more common big bold style that is usually seen in Australian Shiraz.
