Picked at around 10.5 baumé when fruit develops some lifted florals and flavours of ‘green apple’ whilst retaining high acidity. At this level the unique Meslier varietal characters are obvious. Base wines are very pale in colour with lifted apple fruit and crisp, racy acidity. Vintage wines are allowed to mature on yeast lees for 24-36 months before final blending with 40-50% of a younger vintage. Our Meslier Brut Rosé is the only single varietal Meslier Rosé produced in the world that we are aware of at this point in time.

Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. Because of this, many different varietals are planted here with the most dominant being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It is generally thought of as a cooler region, especially when compared to neighbouring Barossa to the north and Mclaren vale and Langhorne Creek to the south.
NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been popular in Australia for a while now, but Adelaide hills Sauvignon Blanc (the most planted grape in the region) could be considered the Aussie Savvy Blanc. From www.adelaidehillswine.com.au about their Sauvignon Blanc: “Wines that are textured, edgy, vibrant and dry with exceptional fruit definition, length and crispness that marry superbly with summer seafood.”
You can also find some cool climate shiraz from the Adelaide hills, defying the more common big bold style that is usually seen in Australian Shiraz.

James Halliday – Produced mostly from the very rare (sparkling) grape variety, meslier, in a rosé style. It's tart and racy, very refreshing and coursing with ultrafine, brisk bubbles. Lots of fragrance, more green apple, faint cherry, light cinnamon dusting and some grapefruity lift. The palate feels set to a distinct aperitif style, delicate, pure, more of the apple and grapefruit, with very faint savoury elements in play. Very refreshing, tightly wound, great persistence and general energy. This is a real treat. – Mike Bennie
