Old Kempton Embezzler Gin (50ml)

A London Dry style Gin, this has plenty of juniper and citrus flavours alongside the rich Tasmanian ingredients (15 botanicals in total). They are soaked in a cane sugar base spirit in a muslin cloth in the spirit still for one day, followed by a one-day distillation process. It’s named after William Henry Ellis, sent from England to Australia in 1825 following a conviction for… you guessed it, embezzlement. He arrived in Tasmania, by all accounts married quite well and built the Dysart House, where the distillery is now based.

A Gin for Gin drinkers, the juniper is present, but led by bright citrus and pepper on the nose. The natural sweetness of cane spirit offsets the freshness of the lemon notes, keeping everything pure and ripe. Spice and florals provide layers across the palate, which is delicate yet long, making it a great Gin for sipping. It doesn’t disappear behind a good tonic however. Try a classic tonic for a bright and fun, or a dryer version to allow the more delicate botanicals to come to the fore.
