The Wine Front – Overall the wine gets about 25% whole bunch in the ferment. The batch is 100% whole bunch at the early stage though, blended back in. It’s under 30% new French oak overall, and barrels used are in a mix of sizes. Winemaker Adam Carnaby likes that flavour comes in at low beaume from the site, with 2016 arriving in optimal condition of flavour balance, though perhaps in a more understated style. Lots of lavish character yet also feels quite ‘quiet’ as a wine. Spicy oak draped on ripe cherries, pomegranate, plums and raspberry. Flood of flavour in the palate, washes with red fruits, peppery spice, clove-y oak. Touch of leafiness in the mix of personality, finishes a little dilute but the general feel is seductive. Nicely done.
About This Wine
The complex, perfumed nose shows aromas of spiced cherry, raspberry and a hint of smoked meats. Palate: Bright, cherry fruits follow on the palate with subtle oak and soft, layered tannins combined with fine acid, resulting in a wine of length and elegance.
