The Wine Front – Peach, pear, grapefruit and lime, brine, struck match, almond meal, aniseed and spice. It’s a juicy number, cinnamon oatmeal, lime pie, chalky and flinty, some Parmesan rind umami quality, electric acidity through a creamy frame, with a long finish that’s all chalk dust and lime rind. James Halliday – Pale straw in the glass with aromas of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit with a nicely dialled-in struck match/sulphide nuance and hints of soft spice, oatmeal, white flowers, nougat, lemon curd and clotted cream. There is impressive detail, clarity and composition here with a long, wonderfully expressive pure flow across the palate on rails of mineral and stone, not a hair out of place, a picture of tension and release. ‘Three parcels of uniquely different Chardonnay fruit were selected to blend this exceptional wine. Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed to seasoned French oak, the resulting juice was left to undergo natural alcoholic fermentation with a small component undergoing natural MLF concurrently. Post fermentation, the wines were over-wintered without the addition of SO2 until spring.

Subsequent blending into stainless steel, where the wine remained on gross lees for a further 6 months to enhance texture and aromatic detail, prior to bottling with minimal intervention.

Beguiling nose of fresh sea spray and flint, framed by zesty grapefruit pith and minerality. A seductive oyster shell and satiating citrus core is framed by subtle oak spice and almond meal. A wine with intensity and purity. – Liam McElhinney

Tasmanian Wine

The Tasmanian wine region is a cool climate region, the most southerly of all wine regions in Australia. Due to the lower temperatures, the area grows primarily Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, with smaller plantings of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Sauvignon.

While Tasmania makes great still wines, the exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also make for excellent sparkling wines.

More recent vintages since 2005 have been positively impacted by the effects of global warming. With slightly higher temperatures the grapes are ensured to ripen fully and produce more vibrant wine.
