Critic reviews

James Halliday – A bright, complex pinot noir sourced from a number of vineyards, predominately the Lowestoft site overlooking the Derwent River. Pure red and dark cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits with hints of Chinese barbecue shop, five-spice, teacake, mushroom, purple floral and subtle leaf litter tones. There is a nice sense of space and clarity in this wine, fine acidity providing the pulse and a sustained red-fruited finish studded with game, amaro and spice. – Dave Brookes

About this Wine

Limited to just 6 bottles! Grab yours while supplies last!

100% hand picked Pinot Noir, fermented in 1 .5T open top fermenters with varying % of whole bunch. The final blend represents approx. 17.5% whole bunch. No additions were made to ferments, with temperatures naturally peaking at 30 degrees Celsius. A judicious mixture of hand plunging and pump over ensures gentle extraction throughout the primary ferment. Total time on skins was approx. 18 days. Finished wine was pressed off to 500L French oak Puncheons (20% new) and matured for 10 months prior to blending and bottling.

The 2021 Estate Pinot Noir is one of the more powerful Lowestoft Pinot Noirs to date. The low cropping 2021 vintage provided grapes of immense concentration and phenolic ripeness. Exotic aromas of sandalwood, amaro, anise and cranberry evolve in the glass. The palate is supple and lithe with cherry damson plum and rosehip woven seamlessly together by the finest thread of mineral acidity that has become the hallmark of our finest Pinot Noirs. – Liam McElhinney

Tasmanian Wine

The Tasmanian wine region is a cool climate region, the most southerly of all wine regions in Australia. Due to the lower temperatures, the area grows primarily Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, with smaller plantings of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Having been to many wine tastings over the years, I can definitely say from a personal standpoint that Tasmanian Chardonnay and Pinot noir are always ones I look forward to trying if they are on the menu. They are almost always high calibre wines that can easily compete against what the rest of the world has to offer in these varietals.” Jason C. – World Wine.

While Tasmania makes great still wines, the exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also make for excellent sparkling wines.

More recent vintages since 2005 have been positively impacted by the effects of global warming. With slightly higher temperatures the grapes are ensured to ripen fully and produce more vibrant wine.
