About this Wine

A lovely, translucent ruby. The tightly intermingled perfume carries Tom's Block characters of savoury tobacco, earthy forest and nori-like ocean breeze. Delicate red berry notes move into savoury tones of cherry pip, mushroom, white clay, brie rind and tamari. A floral fragrance of violets frames this elegant vintage. A restrained and ethereal rendition of Margaret River Cabernet, the body is plush and shapely, with lovely red berry fruit characters and super fine, talc-like tannins of unbelievable length. Graceful and sophisticated with a savoury core, the delicate complexity of perfumes linger on the long drying finish.

Margaret River Wine

In the southwest of Western Australia, the Margaret River wine region is unique in that it is the most maritime-influenced region in all of Australia. The cool Indian ocean breezes come in through the summer to keep the temperatures around the vines steady resulting in an unusually even accumulation of warmth in the growing season. It is also quite dry as interestingly less than 20% of the annual rainfall occurs as the grapes are growing. The region’s climatic factors have been compared to what Bordeaux would be like in a dry season. While the region’s total production is relatively small (3% of Australia’s total wine production), it is responsible for 20% of our premium wine market.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz as well as Bordeaux blends are all very popular red wine options in the region.

For whites, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age worthy Chardonnays are the specialties.

James Halliday – A noble blend of 78% cabernet, 20% malbec and a dollop of petit verdot, conferring ample richness and an authoritative spine: saline maritime acidity and detailed grape tannins, moreish and ripe, attesting to an extraction regime of courage and confidence. Together with extended maturation in French barrique (18 months, 50% new), the structural attributes are impressive.
