97 POINTS - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wines
"Made from the original plantings from ’82 with a lot of vineyard work latterly to get these old vines back into optimum condition. It’s starting to show. There’s a density here without it being a weighty wine, with exceptional tannin structure the key. Aromas and flavours marry well. The palate is supple and plush, with the acidity juicy and buoyant. Bravo.."
Grown on the 1982 planting out the back of the property, and on the Windmill block. You see the whole bunches (25% of the Windmill block portion), you see the fruit, you see the seduction. It’s such a neat wine but it’s so layered and giving, in a balanced/structured way. Bitter chocolate, red berries, some herbs, plenty of spices and earth. Love how emphatic the finish is, so structural and yet so perfectly powered with flavour. This is great. It’s bitter and it’s luscious in the best of ways. Stonier never went away, it’s been excellently served by fantastic winemakers throughout its history, and yet this wine makes me think that Stonier is back.

Mornington Peninsula Wines

South of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula grape growing region has a cool, maritime climate that is most known for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production. Other varieties that have seen some success here include Pinot Gris and Tempranillo.
However, it does seem that Pinot Noir is their focus judging from the fact that The Mornington Peninsula International Pinot Noir Celebration is held once every two years. The event displays the region’s capabilities in making some of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir in front of local and international audiences.
