World Wine – The 2017 vintage was one of the milder vintages in WA. The latest Moss Wood captures this vintage perfectly and is without doubt one of the more restrained and tightly framed Moss Woods of recent years. Not the opulence of 2014 or the firm power of the 2016. Yet it retains the elegance, perfume and soft approachability that is Moss Wood. And hidden within is a wine that I suspect will be still drinking beautifully in 30 years. Make sure you decant it even now before drinking. 97/100 Ray Jordan (Best drinking: Now to 2050)

Huon Hooke – Deep red colour with a purple tinge. The bouquet is shy and closed, with some char-oak aromas plus blackberry, violet and other black fruits, the palate full-bodied and savoury, well-endowed with savoury, fine-grained tannins which run the full length of the palate. A stunning wine in the making. It's all about potential. Must cellar for best results. 96 points - Huon Hooke

About This Wine

Unfortunately we have had to increase our single price to $129 to comply with minimum retail price requirements. Our 5% off price on a dozen brought the price down too low. For any subscribers who are interested to purchase, please email us and we can still offer single bottles at $122.95.

One of Australia's iconic wines, this is Cabernet at its very best. This wine is the very definition of power and elegance. Handcrafted by Keith Mugford and his team in the Margaret River, Moss Wood deservedly fits in the Exceptional category of Langton's Classification of Australian Wine.

This is the pinnacle of the Moss Wood range, is extremely limited. We have received increased stock of 60 bottles compared to last year due to restaurants turning down allocations but this will not last long!

If you miss out, please let us know and we will enquire for a second allocation if any stock remains from the first allocation.

Margaret River Wine

In the southwest of Western Australia, the Margaret River wine region is unique in that it is the most maritime-influenced region in all of Australia. The cool Indian ocean breezes come in through the summer to keep the temperatures around the vines steady resulting in an unusually even accumulation of warmth in the growing season. It is also quite dry as interestingly less than 20% of the annual rainfall occurs as the grapes are growing. The region’s climatic factors have been compared to what Bordeaux would be like in a dry season. While the region’s total production is relatively small (3% of Australia’s total wine production), it is responsible for 20% of our premium wine market.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz as well as Bordeaux blends are all very popular red wine options in the region.

For whites, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age worthy Chardonnays are the specialties.
